Henrietta G. Lewis Campus School

We are a school-age (K-12) special education program. All referrals to our program must come from your home school district's Committee on Special Education for day student population. We work with various counties and school districts across Western New York. Our ratios for the elementary school are 6:1:2 and our ratios for the middle school and high school are 6:1:1.

At the Henrietta G. Lewis Campus School, it is our belief that to suitably educate our students, we need to utilize a whole-child approach. All students need to develop skills beyond just academic competencies. Emotional habits such as persistence, character, optimism, self-management, focus and curiosity are equally as important. Our school community offers academic, social and emotional instruction that provides for individualized educational experiences.

A trauma-sensitive learning environment is one in which a child feels appreciated and cared for by adults at school; the classroom and school environment is emotionally and physically safe; and clearly articulated standards for behavior are reinforced through positive interventions and relationships with adults and peers.

Our school offers a New York State curriculum that is aligned with all New York State Common Core and Next Generation learning standards as well as Regents requirements. A strong focus on literacy, social/emotional competency, and language skills help develop our students’ ability to read, write, develop and think critically in all curricular areas including English Language Arts, Mathematics, Sciences, Social Studies, Art, Music, Technology, American Sign Language and Physical Education.

Students from third to eighth grade will participate in New York State Assessments. High School students will take Regents exams as their coursework requires. Assessment data is continually monitored and used to adjust curriculum and create individualized instruction so that each students’ specific needs are met, while insuring adherence to Common Core and Next Generation standards.

The integration of curriculum and technology through software and web-based programs is strongly supported at the Henrietta G. Lewis Campus School. Our high school students may have the opportunity to take courses through Edgenuity©. The Edgenuity© class is a computer-based software program that allows students to either recover credit for a course they previously
failed or gain credit for another class. Our commitment to educational technology is evidenced in every classroom through the use of computers, Chromebooks, Tablets and Interactive White Boards.

Wayne A. Secord Therapeutic Preschool

The Wayne A. Secord Therapeutic Preschool is a therapeutic preschool for special education students. All referrals to our program come from the school district's committee on Preschool special education in which their student resides.  We work with Orleans, Niagara and Genesee counties.

The program runs 5 days a week, Monday-Friday, from 8:30 am until 2:00 pm with a 40 week regular school schedule. The program also offers a 6 week summer session to students in need of supports and services over the long break. Students participate in a classroom with a ratio of 8:1:3 and related services are provided within the school day including: Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Counseling, and Parent Counseling and Training.

Preschool staff advocate for what children need while the child is in preschool as well as when the child transitions to Kindergarten. Staff empower parents and guardians to make appropriate and informed decisions about their children’s educational programming. Children are referred to the Wayne A. Secord Therapeutic Preschool via the child’s local school district.
